WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is suggesting the Liberal government revisit and streamline the Better Buildings Program to make it more accessible for rural Yukon communities instead of simply cutting funding. After Yukoners have been slow to access funds, the Liberal government cut $1 million from this year’s program, instead of revising the parameters so it works for users.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is suggesting the Liberal government stabilize the rental housing market by abandoning their failed rent control policy. Since the Liberal-NDP policy’s introduction, rents have risen significantly, and the number of units has not kept up with demand as investors have been scared off.
WHITEHORSE – On Wednesday, the Yukon Legislative Assembly debated a Yukon Party Official Opposition motion calling for the Yukon government to increase funding to hire more front-line police officers in Whitehorse and in rural Yukon.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is concerned to see a $6 million cut to the housing budget in the Liberal government’s 2023-24 Supplementary Budget tabled last week. Affordability and availability of housing continue to be one of the biggest challenges facing Yukoners as they struggle with the rising cost of living.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is calling for immediate action to address the unacceptable status quo in the vicinity of the Whitehorse Emergency Shelter. Business owners in the area have had enough with what one business called the ‘ruinous conditions’ within a few block radius of the shelter.
WHITEHORSE – It has been over eight months since a new Liberal premier took over what was already a tired and listless government. As the 2023 Fall sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly begins, Yukoners are seeing more of the same inaction from a Liberal government that is unwilling to listen.
WHITEHORSE – Once again, rural Yukoners are being left behind by the territorial Liberals. On Thursday, the government announced on Facebook that the Ross River Health Centre will be closed for almost a month starting on Friday, September 29.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is expressing concern about the confusion related to the recent announcement by the Government of Canada regarding the Canadian Emergency Business Account (CEBA) loan repayment extension.
WHITEHORSE – On Thursday, the Liberal government announced the Pelly Crossing Health Centre would be reducing services starting Friday, September 22, lasting until Thursday, September 28 due to a staffing shortage. The notice says there will be no nurse in the community, and EMS can be called if health services are needed.
