Doris Anderson

Doris Anderson is a renowned Yukon First Nations leader who brings significant experience to the Yukon Party team advocating for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit+ (MMIWG2S+) people both in the Yukon and at the national level.

She has served as president of the Yukon Aboriginal Women’s Council, Vice-Chair of the Assembly of First Nations Women’s Council, and in various First Nations executive positions.

The mother of two and grandmother of three was born and raised in Whitehorse. She has served on two school councils and is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, having previously served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. She and her late husband, who served in the military for 22 years, lived in Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Manitoba before returning to the Yukon.

Anderson, who is Tagish Kwan, stays grounded to her Yukon First Nations roots with Traditional and cultural practices in her spare time. She loves sharing her knowledge and teachings to her children and grandchildren about their traditional heritage, and the traditional ways of harvesting and cultural preparations of harvested food.

 


About Porter Creek North

Porter Creek North covers the northern boundary at km 1435 and includes Crestview and the Taylor Industrial area, and is bounded by Sycamore Street, the north side of Wann Road, the east side of the Alaska Highway, and across to the north of the Kulan Industrial area, extending to the municipal boundary. It is the 6th largest of Whitehorse's electoral districts at 16 km2. It is bordered by the Whitehorse districts of Porter Creek Centre, Whistle Bend North, and Riverdale North, as well as the rural district of Lake Laberge.

The electoral district was known as Whitehorse Porter Creek East before 1992.
