Scott Kent

Scott Kent has proudly served as an MLA for 16 years, representing ridings in Riverdale and South Whitehorse. He has been the MLA for Copperbelt South since 2016.

He moved to Whitehorse with his family from Saskatchewan in 1973 and started Kindergarten that year in Riverdale, graduating from FH Collins High School in 1986. He and his wife Amanda, have been married since 2006, and their son just finished up his final year at Golden Horn Elementary School on his way to FH Collins.

Scott worked in a family-owned business during the 1990s and was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in 2000. From 2002 to 2021, he worked for the Canadian Cancer Society, the Klondike Placer Miners’ Association, the Yukon Chamber of Mines, and the Yukon Hospital Foundation. In 2011, he was re-elected and was a Cabinet Minister until 2016. Today, he is honoured to represent the residents and businesses of his riding as a member of the Yukon Party Official Opposition.

About Copperbelt South

First contested in the 2011 election, the Copperbelt South electoral district is an amalgamation of the former ridings of Mount Lorne and Copperbelt. It is bordered by the districts of Riverdale South, Copperbelt North, Porter Creek South, and Marsh Lake-Mount Lorne-Golden Horn. Copperbelt South includes the subdivisions of Lobird, McLean Lake, Ear Lake Road, Canyon Crescent, Mount Sima, MacRae, Wolf Creek, Fox Haven, Pineridge, Spruce Hill, Mary Lake, Cowley Creek, and Whitehorse Copper, and it extends south to Km 1405 on the Alaska Highway. It is the 2nd largest electoral district in Whitehorse at 123.2 km².
