Currie Dixon - Leader of the Yukon Party

Currie Dixon was elected as Leader of the Yukon Party on May 23, 2020.

Currie is a lifelong Yukoner, born in Whitehorse. He attended St Francis Xavier University where he received an honours degree in Political Science and History. He attended graduate school at the University of Northern British Columbia where he received a Master of Arts degree in Political Science, focusing his studies on First Nations governance and economic development.

In 2011, Currie was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Copperbelt North. From 2011-2016 he served in Cabinet with various portfolios, including as the Minister of Environment, Economic Development, Community Services, and the Public Service Commission.

He chose not to run in the 2016 election, opting instead to pursue a career in the private sector.

Currie was elected once again as the Member for Copperbelt North in the 2021 election. Besides Leader of the Official Opposition, he serves as the Critic for the Executive Council Office, the Yukon Liquor Corporation, the Yukon Lottery Corporation, the Yukon Cannabis Corporation, Early Learning and Child Care, and Sport.

About Copperbelt North

The Copperbelt North electoral district was created in 2009 following the amalgamation of part of the district of Whitehorse West and the former district of Copperbelt. Copperbelt North stretches from the intersection of Hamilton Boulevard and Lazulite Drive to encompass the southern portion of the Copper Ridge subdivision. It is the 3rd smallest electoral district in Whitehorse at 3.6 km².
