WHITEHORSE – On Wednesday, the Yukon Party Official Opposition introduced a motion to exempt Yukon truck drivers from federal rules surrounding electronic logging devices (ELDs) when they conduct trips within Yukon borders. The Yukon’s local trucking contractors have highlighted the high costs and issues with installation of the ELDs, and requested the exemption, like exemptions made in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is urging the Liberal government to immediately begin discussions with the Yukon Medical Association and Yukon Medical Council about possible solutions to speed up physician licencing to allow doctors who have licenses elsewhere to practice in the territory.
WHITEHORSE – On Monday, the Yukon Party Official Opposition questioned the Liberal government’s past statements about First Nations Procurement Policy following a Yukon Supreme Court judgement on March 8, 2023. A Yukon government lawyer presented arguments that contradict statements by the Liberal Minister of Highways and Public Works on the purpose of the First Nations Business Registry, defining a First Nation business under the policy.
WHITEHORSE – The latest numbers from the Yukon Bureau of Statistics (YBS) show inflation in Whitehorse remains high. In fact, it is the highest in the country for the third month in a row. This shows the Liberals’ limited attempts over the past year to help tackle inflation are not working.

WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is once again questioning the Minister of Community Services over his failure to get new lots to market in the Yukon. Despite numerous promised timelines, the Minister has furthered delayed the construction of new lots in Phase 9 of Whistle Bend.
WHITEHORSE – Yukoners, like the rest of the world, were horrified at the images coming out of Türkiye and Syria after a major earthquake rattled the region on February 6.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition raised questions about changes to the previously announced replacement for École Whitehorse Elementary School (EWES). The five-year capital plan now shows the Liberal government has delayed construction timelines for the new school and anticipates earliest completion in 2028.
WHITEHORSE – Last spring, the Minister of Environment told Yukoners they should get excited about the work underway to select a new campground location. The 2020 Yukon Parks Strategy, unveiled after consultation with a cross-section of Yukoners including First Nations, called for a recreation park within two hours of Whitehorse that would contain up to 150 campsites among other amenities.
