WHITEHORSE – On July 11 and 12, Canada’s Premiers met in Victoria at the Council of the Federation Meeting where the main topic of discussion was health care funding. In interviews following the meeting, Premier Silver noted that significant investment was needed for the recruitment of health professionals in the Yukon.

WHITEHORSE – In April 2021, the Liberal government put an abrupt end to midwifery services by banning unlicensed midwives from offering care in the Yukon. The announcement, made just ahead of a snap election call by the Premier, came even though the government was not ready to offer midwifery services themselves.  

Yukon Party Raises Concerns over Chief Medical Officer of Health

WHITEHORSE - The Yukon Party is raising concerns about the appointment of a former Liberal Party candidate as the Chief Medical Officer of Health. This follows the recent decision of the Yukon’s former Chief Medical Officer of Health revealing his own partisanship and becoming a Liberal MP in the 2021 election. In making this appointment the Yukon Liberals have continued their trend of politicizing the supposedly independent office while undermining public confidence in the office.
