Opposition Parties Asked to Save Liberals from Missing Payroll

WHITEHORSE – On Wednesday, the Yukon Party Official Opposition questioned how the Liberal government mismanaged finances so badly that multiple departments ran out of money and were unable to pay employees during the final pay period of the 2023/2024 fiscal year. The free-spending Liberals have spent beyond their means, and the amount authorized for the fiscal year. As a result, the Liberals are in danger of breaking the law regarding government spending, the Financial Administration Act.

Questions on Health Authority Require Pause on Bill Process

WHITEHORSE – On Tuesday, during second reading of Bill 38, the Health Authority Act, the Yukon Party Official Opposition introduced a motion to adjourn debate on the bill to allow more time for engagement and consultation. The motion was brought forward so Yukoners could gather more information about what a new health authority would mean for the Yukon and the health care system.

Health Minister Questioned on Almost $13,000 Scotland Trip

WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is asking the Minister of Health and Social Services to explain what value Yukoners received for her almost $13,000 trip to Scotland last September. The minister’s junket happened as rural health centres faced closures and service reductions.

Territorial Liberals and NDP Vote to Increase Yukoners’ Cost-of-Living

WHITEHORSE – On Wednesday, the Yukon Legislative Assembly debated a motion from the Yukon Party Official Opposition asking the Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly to write to the Prime Minister to request that the planned carbon tax increase for April 1 be scrapped.

Liberals Turn Former High Country Inn Into Boondoggle

WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is concerned that a long-delayed housing project at the old High Country Inn on 4th Avenue in Whitehorse is far over budget and now a boondoggle for Yukon taxpayers after Premier Ranj Pillai went back on his word. At the Yukon Chamber of Commerce budget lunch in the spring of 2023, the Premier responded to a question on the issue and made it very clear that the Yukon Government was not going to invest any further money into the project.
