WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is urging the Minister of Health and Social Services to listen to health professionals and finally take their concerns seriously by addressing long wait times, overcrowding in the Whitehorse hospital, chronic underfunding of our hospitals, and staff shortages.
WHITEHORSE – Recent statistics from the Whitehorse RCMP confirm that the Liberal Government can no longer continue to ignore the issue of property crime that is sweeping through downtown Whitehorse.
“It appears the Liberal government’s management of the Eagle Mine accident has resulted in the worst possible outcome for Yukoners, Yukon businesses, and taxpayers. It also provides no certainty that any environmental concerns will be better addressed.
“We are aware of the August 14, 2024, news release from the Victoria Gold Corporation that indicates the Yukon Government has filed an application to appoint a receiver over the company and its property.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is calling on Liberal Premier Ranj Pillai to explain his comments about the City of Whitehorse he made in a speech to the Council of Yukon First Nations General Assembly on July 30. In that speech, the Premier criticized the city for their alleged absence in work to keep downtown Whitehorse safe.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is calling on the Liberal government to address property crime and downtown safety and make them priorities in the 2024-25 Policing Priorities. Every year, the Minister of Justice identifies those priorities for the Yukon RCMP through a letter to the Commanding Officer.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Caucus opposes the closure of transfer stations in Braeburn, Silver City, and Johnson’s Crossing. The Liberal government announced on July 22 these facilities would close in the Fall, and residents in the affected communities would have to travel in some cases over 100 kilometres round-trip to dispose of their waste.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is calling for the Yukon Government to take action to support the City of Whitehorse in processing the backlog of housing construction permits that is threatening Yukon’s housing construction season. This call echoes the concerns that have been raised publicly by representatives of the home building and construction industry over the past several weeks.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition renews its criticism of the state of the Yukon-managed part of the Dempster Highway. The highway, from east of Dawson City to Inuvik, Northwest Territories, is a vital link for residents of the Mackenzie Delta in the NWT and attracts tourists from around the world.
