Yukon Government Must Take Action to Prevent Rural Health Centre Closures

WHITEHORSE – This summer, the Government of Yukon temporarily closed or reduced operating hours at multiple community nursing stations due to a lack of staff. Statement from Leader Currie Dixon on Hosting 2026 Arctic Winter Games

“The Yukon Party Official Opposition urges the Government of Yukon to support the unanimous vote by Whitehorse City Council on July 10, 2023 to host the 2026 Arctic Winter Games. The Yukon is a proven host in the past and the majority of the required infrastructure already exists in the city.

Premier Needs to Highlight Yukon Priorities at Council of the Federation Meeting

WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is highlighting Yukoners’ priorities for Yukon’s Liberal Premier in advance of the Summer Meeting of Canada’s Premiers. Yukoners continue to be challenged by the rising cost of living, and Yukon municipalities remain concerned about the looming gap in infrastructure funding, as well as climate change adaptation funding. On Monday, July 10, he will join his counterparts from across the country and be able to push for these Yukon issues at the 2023 multi-day meeting in Winnipeg.

Liberals Continue to Impose Unnecessary Red Tape on Housing Construction

WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is renewing its call for the Liberal Government to reverse its change to the land title transfer policy. Changed without consultation, the policy now issues land titles for new homes after a City of Whitehorse occupancy permit is in place, instead of earlier in the construction process when the home is clad to weather – meaning the structure can withstand the elements. This change has increased uncertainty, costs, delays, and red tape for the housing construction industry.
