WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition brought numerous issues to the floor of the Legislative Assembly on behalf of Yukoners during the 2024 Spring sitting. Questions from Yukoners prompted reactive backlash from a Liberal government that has grown old, tired, and out of ideas.
The Yukon Party is particularly concerned about the state of the territory’s health care system. From a lack of funding for Yukon Hospitals and a growing patient wait list to the halting of referrals from orthopaedic surgeons and bringing in military health personnel, our health care system is being mishandled by a minister with a deeply flawed record on numerous files across multiple departments.
The Liberal government continues to fail in education, lot development, and housing. All this is happening while Yukoners deal with the rising cost of living.
“Life is getting tougher for Yukoners under this Liberal government,” said Leader Currie Dixon. “We hear stories about the lack of access to health care, troubles from educators in our school system, and Yukoners who simply cannot find a place to live. The Liberal government has run its course, and it is time for Yukoners to have a say in an election on who they want to address these pressing issues.”
Despite all this, the Liberals continually break their commitments to the NDP under the Confidence and Supply Agreement. Unfortunately, Kate White and the NDP keep the Liberals in power while the government falters.
Yukon Party MLAs will now return to their ridings and meet with Yukoners over the summer to gather their input in preparation for the Fall sitting.
