WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is calling for the Federal government to discontinue the use of the ineffective ArriveCAN app. We encourage the territorial Liberals to join our call to end the program.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition applauds the Yukon Government’s work with the local Ukrainian community to welcome refugees to the territory. The introduction of the Ukraine Help Desk and the interpreter program at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport are examples of collaborative work with the Yukon’s Ukrainian community to ensure we can help those needing refuge and fleeing the large-scale wholly unprovoked attack by Russia.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition is requesting that the Minister of Education outline a plan to address the findings of a Yukon Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board (WSCB) inspection report. The Yukon News reported on Monday that the report “shows the Education department is failing to meet legislation that requires health and safety committee programs in schools. Those programs are legislatively mandated in 18 of the territory’s 36 schools.”
WHITEHORSE – A significant contributing factor to the Yukon’s housing affordability crisis is a lack of supply of land available for housing development. This is because of the Liberal government’s inability to keep up with demand due to mismanagement, lack of planning, and delays. The latest example is the continued and chronic delays associated with Phase 6 of Whistle Bend in Whitehorse.
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon’s Minister of Education and the education system in general faced a number of issues heading into the 2022/2023 school year. The early results show many of those are getting worse, with more quickly piling up.
WHITEHORSE – According to project documents on the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) website, major roadwork, and storm sewer line repair just south of Selkirk Elementary School in Riverdale were to be completed in 2021. Project documents say the work was to occur with minimal disruption to traffic.
WHITEHORSE – The number of issues and concerns related to Yukon’s education system have continued to pile up over the summer. Unfortunately, there has been a lack of leadership from the Minister of Education, or any member of Cabinet for that matter, as these issues come to a head on the eve of back-to-school.
