WHITEHORSE – Yukon’s first Filipina MLA, Yvonne Clarke, announced today her bid for re-election as she seeks the Yukon Party nomination in Porter Creek Centre for the 2025 territorial election, to be held on or before November 3. First elected in 2021, Clarke has tirelessly championed her constituents’ voices in the Legislative Assembly.
“It has been an incredible honour to serve the residents of Porter Creek Centre,” Clarke said. “Over the past four years, engaging with voters—whether on doorsteps, at community events, or even in local grocery stores—has given me invaluable insight into our shared challenges. I am proud of our accomplishments and excited to continue our work under Currie Dixon’s leadership.”
Born in the Philippines and calling the Yukon home for 30 years, Clarke combines personal experience with a strong professional background. As a mother of three adult children, former small business owner, and territorial government employee, she uniquely understands the needs and challenges facing families. Her dedication is further demonstrated by her leadership roles with the Canadian Filipino Society of the Yukon, Yukon Learn Society, Yukon Public Legal Education Association, RCMP Commissioner’s Diversity Advisory Committee, and as Chair of the Yukon Advisory Council on Women’s Issues.
“I understand the real challenges families face—from rising living costs and healthcare access to housing and education,” she added. “These issues are personal to me, and I have dedicated my time in office to creating tangible solutions. With Currie Dixon at the helm, I’m confident we can build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Yukon for everyone.”
Clarke also serves as the Official Opposition critic for the Yukon Housing Corporation, Market Housing, Housing and Lot Development-Whitehorse, the Women and Gender Equity Directorate, and the French Language Services Directorate. Appointed to the Standing Committee on Statutory Instruments on May 17, 2021, and serving as the Yukon branch representative of the Canadian Women Parliamentarians, she has consistently pushed for policies that benefit all residents.
As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing, including for Porter Creek Centre, will be announced electronically through local media and to party members. Once a nomination opens, it will not close before 14 days of the notice. To learn more about the Yukon Party and how to support its efforts for change, please visit yukonparty.ca.
