Yukon Party Thanks Stacey Hassard for Service to Yukoners

WHITEHORSE – Former Yukon Party Interim Leader and long-time MLA Stacey Hassard has announced that he will not seek another term.

A three-term Pelly-Nisutlin MLA, Hassard was first elected in 2011 and served almost two years in Cabinet. He was named interim leader of the Yukon Party in November 2016 and served until current party leader, Currie Dixon, was elected in May 2020.

“It’s been an honour to serve the residents and businesses of Pelly-Nisutlin for the past 14 years,” said Hassard. “I would like to thank all Yukoners, my family and my fellow Yukon Party colleagues for their support during my time as minister, interim leader, and MLA. I wish Currie Dixon and the Yukon Party the best of luck as they work to become the next territorial government.”

“On behalf of the Yukon Party, I would like to thank Stacey for his dedication to our party, the Yukon, and to Yukoners,” said Leader Currie Dixon. “Stacey brought an important rural perspective to our team, paired with practical, real-world contracting and small business experience. Though we will miss his guidance and sense of humour around our caucus table, we appreciate knowing Stacey will continue to advocate for Yukoners as a private citizen and look forward to witnessing his next endeavours.”

The next territorial election must be held on or before November 3, 2025.

Due to the recent changes to the Yukon’s electoral boundaries, voters within the existing riding of Pelly-Nisutlin will now be part of the new ridings of either Southern Lakes or Watson Lake-Ross River-Faro. Maps outlining the new boundaries are available on the Yukon Party website.

As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing, including for Southern Lakes and Watson Lake-Ross River-Faro, will be announced electronically to party members. To learn more about the Yukon Party and how to support its efforts for change, please visit yukonparty.ca.
