Yukon Party Motion to Save Canyon Creek Bridge Passes

WHITEHORSE – On Wednesday, the Yukon Legislative Assembly passed the Yukon Party Official Opposition’s motion to save the Canyon Creek Bridge.

Kluane MLA Wade Istchenko introduced the motion after hearing reports of the Yukon government’s plans to dismantle the bridge. Area residents, constituents, and Yukoners dedicated to preserving the territory’s history contacted Istchenko to express their concerns about the plans to dismantle the bridge.

The motion reads as follows:

THAT this House urges the Government of Yukon to explore opportunities to rehabilitate the Canyon Creek bridge.

The motion passed unanimously.

“This is a landmark structure built over 100 years ago that is still used recreationally today,” said Istchenko. “While I understand that there may be some safety concerns with the bridge, residents have told me the structure is well-utilized. I hope the government will come up with a plan to address any safety issues with the bridge so Yukoners can use it for years to come.”
