WHITEHORSE – In the spirit of cooperation, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) passed an unprecedent 28 motions unanimously during the spring sitting.
Yukon Party Caucus motions highlighted the unique northern way of life and issues important to Yukoners. All ten motions the Yukon Party Caucus called for debate passed unanimously.
Extensive debate focused on the $2.46 billion territorial budget. Every line of Budget 2026 was called and debated, providing ample opportunity for opposition members to ask questions about the territorial budget.
Yukon Party MLAs also asked government ministers several constituency-related questions and highlighted issues important to all Yukoners such as the territory’s financial situation, funding for our health care system, and challenges with the Yukon’s power grid.
“Our first full sitting in the Legislative Assembly was productive, collaborative, and efficient,” said Leader Currie Dixon. “We’ve seen an unprecedented level of consensus; something not witnessed in a generation. While we may not always agree with opposition parties on every approach, we share a common responsibility to the people we serve.”
MLAs will now head back to their ridings for the summer and gather input from their constituents in preparation for the Fall sitting.
