Wade Istchenko Acclaimed as Candidate in Kluane

HAINES JUNCTION – Wade Istchenko will represent the Yukon Party in the Kluane riding during the 2025 territorial election, which must be held on or before November 3. Istchenko was acclaimed as the sole Yukon Party candidate seeking to represent the riding during the 14-day nomination period, which closed on February 6.

The three-term MLA was first elected in Kluane during the 2011 territorial election and was re-elected in 2016 and 2021. He was raised in Haines Junction and is an active Canadian Rangers and St. Elias Lions Club member.

“I’m thankful to secure the nomination and for the chance to once again represent Kluane's great residents and businesses in the Legislative Assembly,” said Istchenko. “I look forward to connecting with folks in the coming weeks and months to hear their concerns and chat about how we can solve them. Standing up for rural Yukon is so important to me and I’m proud to be on Currie Dixon’s team so we can bring real and much-needed change for Yukoners.”

“Wade brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Yukon Party team,” said Leader Currie Dixon. “As a former minister, long-time MLA, and champion for rural Yukon, I know Wade will continue to bring a strong voice to the table as part of the change Yukoners are looking for.”

As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing will be announced electronically through local media and to party members. Once a nomination opens, it will not close before 14 days of the notice.

Yukon Party nominations for Porter Creek North are open to February 12.
