WHITEHORSE – A Leger poll commissioned by the Yukon Party in January found that an overwhelming majority of Yukoners want a territorial election immediately. The poll found that 71% of voters now think it is time for a Yukon general election.
The numbers show continued dismal support for the Yukon Liberals. Similar to Leger’s 2024 polling, it is a two-horse race between the Yukon Party and the NDP. The Yukon Party remains in the lead at 41%, followed by the NDP at 34%. The territorial Liberals sit at 23%, lower than the 25.3% vote share the party received when it was reduced to 2 seats in 2011. Other parties polled at 1% support.
“The current Premier has never received a mandate from the Yukon people and voters want an election so they can have their say on who should govern the territory,” said leader Currie Dixon. “Yukoners have seen how NDP and Liberal policies have failed to address the affordability crisis, contributed to a lack of housing, and weakened our health care and education systems. Yukoners want change now and the Yukon Party is ready to provide stability and common-sense solutions.”
The Yukon Party has begun announcing and nominating candidates in preparation for the next election.
“As almost three-quarters of Yukoners demand an election, the momentum for change is growing as many dedicated and skilled Yukoners are approaching the Yukon Party to be part of the change we will lead,” added Dixon. “Voters will continue to see our plan and vision roll out in the coming months as we announce more candidates and continue our preparations.”
Between January 23 and 30, Leger conducted landline and cell phone interviews with 500 Yukoners. The poll has a margin of error of ±4.4%, 19 times out of 20.
