Ted Laking to Seek Yukon Party Nomination in Porter Creek Centre

WHITEHORSE – Former Whitehorse City Councillor Ted Laking has announced he will seek the Yukon Party nomination in Porter Creek Centre for the upcoming territorial election. The election must be held on or before November 3, 2025.

Born in Dawson City, Laking has extensive experience at the federal, territorial and municipal levels of government. He has six years of experience working at senior levels of government on Parliament Hill, including as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Communications to former federal Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq between 2013 and 2015.  Laking returned to the Yukon in 2015 and served the public as the Chief of Staff of the Official Opposition from 2016 until 2021, when he successfully secured a seat on Whitehorse City Council. As a City Councillor, he served as the President of the Association of Yukon Communities and as a member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Executive. He has been employed in the private sector with a mining supply company in Whitehorse for the last several years.

“Over the past decade, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges families face with affordability, health care and education, and I’m ready to tackle them head-on,” said Laking. “With my lifelong roots in the Yukon, I’m committed to working to build a community where families can thrive, feel safe and trust in a brighter future where the next generation can raise their families. It’s time for common-sense solutions that ensure every Yukoner has the opportunities they deserve.”

Laking was joined at the announcement by current Whitehorse City Councillor Dan Boyd and former City Councillor Jocelyn Curteanu.

“I am honoured to accept endorsements from Dan and Jocelyn,” added Laking. “Having the support of two long-time city councillors means a lot as I move forward with my campaign to represent the residents of Porter Creek Centre.”

As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing, including for Porter Creek Centre, will be announced electronically through local media and to party members. Once a nomination opens, it will not close before 14 days after the notice.
