“First, thank you to the Auditor General and the AG’s office for their work reviewing procurement. It is quite a comprehensive review of the Yukon’s procurement and contracting system.
“Ever since 2016, this Liberal government has talked big about how they were going to fix procurement in the Yukon, but it's pretty clear from this report that this is not the case. As the report indicates, we see a continued lack of transparency, and most of all, we see a lack of value for money, which is clearly not being demonstrated in what they are doing.
“I have always felt that the government was failing when it came to procurement and contracting in the Yukon, and this AG report just proves it.
“The report highlights the fact that the government does not track or does not have a process on how to determine what’s working and what's not working. We have always said that the concept of a First Nations Procurement Policy is great, but you have to have a process in which you can determine if it is working or not. And unfortunately, the way that this Liberal government has gone about it there is not any way to see clear results.
“Going forward, I hope to see the government take action on the recommendations outlined in the report. Then, we will hopefully see some improvements to the system, and Yukoners can once again feel the government is acting in their best interests and spending taxpayer money responsibly.”
