Sandra Charlie Will Be the Yukon Party Candidate for Vuntut Gwitchin

WHITEHORSE – Sandra Charlie will be appointed as the Yukon Party candidate for Vuntut Gwitchin in the 2025 territorial election, which must be called on or before October 3.

Charlie was born and raised in Old Crow and is a proud mother of two and grandmother of six. She is a former Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation councillor and has been involved with her First Nation as a director, administrator, and coordinator in various departments for several decades. She is a trustee with the Vuntut Gwitchin Business Trust and was a member of the Vuntut Gwitchin Renewable Resources Oil & Gas Committee. She has also worked in the private sector as an Indigenous liaison. Charlie also spends her time sewing both traditional clothing and beads.

“I want to bring strong representation and advocacy for my community of Old Crow and make positive changes for the Yukon,” said Charlie. “This is a way to give something back to my community, and make sure there are fair and transparent opportunities for my people. I am pleased to join Currie Dixon and his Yukon Party team so we can make that change happen.”

Charlie will be appointed as a candidate according to the bylaws outlined in the Yukon Party constitution that come into effect when there is insufficient time to conduct a full nomination process.
