Patti McLeod Seeks Yukon Party Nomination in Watson Lake-Ross River-Faro

WHITEHORSE – Longtime Watson Lake MLA Patti McLeod has announced she will seek the Yukon Party nomination for the Watson Lake-Ross River-Faro riding in the 2025 territorial election, which must be called on or before October 3. McLeod informed supporters of her decision at a community BBQ in Wye Lake Park on Saturday, August 2nd.

McLeod moved to the community from Whitehorse in 1977 and raised two children. While in Watson Lake, she worked in mining administration for 36 years for both the territorial and federal governments. She was also employed by the Watson Lake Chamber of Commerce.

McLeod was first elected as Watson Lake MLA in the 2011 territorial election and became the first woman to serve as speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly in 2016. She was subsequently re-elected in 2016 and 2021. She previously served on Watson Lake Town Council from 2006 to 2009 and on various local and territorial boards and committees.

“It has been a pleasure to serve as MLA for Watson Lake over the past 14 years, and I would like to represent not only Watson Lake, but the residents of Ross River and Faro as well in the Legislative Assembly,” said McLeod. “Over the past eight years, the concerns of rural Yukon have been brushed aside by the territorial government. I have championed the issues of rural Yukon for over a decade, and I know Currie Dixon’s Yukon Party team welcomes strong voices from rural Yukon.”

As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing, including for Watson Lake-Ross River-Faro, will be announced electronically to party members.

To date, Yukon Party candidates have been confirmed in Copperbelt North, Copperbelt South, Kluane, Lake Laberge, Mayo-Tatchun, Porter Creek Centre, Porter Creek North, Porter Creek South, Takhini, Whistle Bend North, Whistle Bend South and Riverdale South, with nominations currently open in Whitehorse West.
