Patti McLeod Acclaimed as YP Candidate in Watson Lake-Ross River-Faro

WHITEHORSE – Long-time MLA Patti McLeod has been acclaimed as the Yukon Party candidate for the new riding of Watson Lake-Ross River-Faro in the 2025 territorial election, which must be called on or before October 3. McLeod has served as the MLA for Watson Lake since 2011.

McLeod is focused on giving back to the community. She worked as a mining administrator for both the federal and territorial governments and held numerous volunteer board roles. McLeod served as a Watson Lake Town Councillor before being elected as MLA. She served on Watson Lake Town Council and the Labour Standards Appeal Board, co-founded the community’s first daycare centre and worked with Communities in Bloom.

She was the first and only female Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly. McLeod would look forward to being the very first to represent the new riding of Watson Lake-Ross River-Faro to help highlight and celebrate what makes the communities unique and what unites them.

“I have long been an advocate for the voice of rural Yukoners during my time as a Yukon Party MLA,” said McLeod. “In addition to Watson Lake, I want to hear and bring forward the issues and opportunities of Ross River and Faro as part of a Yukon Party team led by Currie Dixon. I am excited to connect with the residents of Ross River and Faro in the coming days and weeks to listen to their concerns and put forward their perspectives.”

As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing will be announced electronically to party members. After McLeod, Yukon Party candidates are now confirmed in 13 of 21 ridings. Nominations are also currently open in Whitehorse Centre, Marsh Lake-Mount Lorne-Golden Horn, Riverdale North, and Mountainview. A contested nomination will be held to determine the candidate in Whitehorse West, with a vote among party members in the riding taking place on Thursday, August 28.
