WHITEHORSE – On Wednesday, the territorial Liberal government announced a ‘new’ loan program for first-time Yukon home buyers. In fact, the program is a repackaged version of the program cancelled by the Liberals in 2019.
The Yukon Party committed to reinstating the program during the 2021 territorial election campaign.
Besides the First Time Mortgage Loan Program, the Liberals also cut two other housing-related programs in 2019, including the Down Payment Assistance Loan Program and the Owner Build Loan Program.
“Reintroducing the First Time Home Buyer Program is good news for those seeking homeownership,” said Housing Critic Yvonne Clarke. “We have been calling for this program to be brought back for many years, and the Liberals have done so during an election year.”
