WHITEHORSE – Seasoned public sector leader Laura Lang has announced she will seek the Yukon Party nomination in Whitehorse West in the 2025 territorial election, which must be called on or before October 3.
Lang has lived in the Yukon for 25 years and has over two decades of experience with the Yukon Housing Corporation and Yukon Health and Social Services, including roles in health and housing administration, policy development, and community engagement.
The married mother of five served on the École Whitehorse Elementary School Council for 15 years, as both the chair and a board member. During this time, she helped develop a vision for French Immersion in the territory, and participated in the Association of Yukon School Councils, Boards & Committees development of an education vision for the Department of Education. She has been actively involved in the community through several organizations, including Whitehorse Minor Hockey, Polarettes Gymnastics, Northern Lights Dance, Whitehorse Soccer, the Share the Spirit campaign, and the Whitehorse United Church.
“The territory is facing several challenges right now, and Yukoners are worried about the future,” said Lang. “As a parent, community volunteer, and long-time public servant, I hear Yukoners' concerns first-hand. I have the experience and knowledge of how government works. If I secure the nomination, I would be pleased to work with Currie Dixon and his Yukon Party team to help move our territory forward and find made-in-the-Yukon solutions to the issues we are facing.”
As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing, including for Whitehorse West, will be announced electronically to party members.
To date, Yukon Party candidates have been confirmed in Copperbelt North, Copperbelt South, Kluane, Lake Laberge, Porter Creek Centre, Porter Creek North, Porter Creek South, Takhini, Whistle Bend North, Whistle Bend South and Riverdale South, with nominations currently open in Mayo-Tatchun.
