Doris Anderson Acclaimed as Candidate in Porter Creek North

WHITEHORSE – Doris Anderson will represent the Yukon Party in the riding of Porter Creek North during the 2025 territorial election, which must be held on or before November 3. Anderson was acclaimed as the sole Yukon Party candidate seeking to represent the riding during the 14-day nomination period, which closed on February 12.

Anderson has an extensive background advocating for First Nations and Yukoners throughout the territory. She has served at both the territorial and national levels to push action on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit+ (MMIWG2S+) people. Anderson has also served in leading roles with the Yukon Aboriginal Women’s Council and the Assembly of First Nations Women’s Council. She is a Yukon First Nations citizen.

“I am pleased to have secured the nomination for the Yukon Party in Porter Creek North,” said Anderson. “I will now spend time connecting with residents in the riding to hear their concerns and bring them forward to Currie Dixon and the Yukon Party team. I am excited to be a part of the change Yukoners are looking for at the territorial government level, and I can’t wait to get to work.”

“I am very happy to secure a candidate of Doris’ stature as part of the Yukon Party team,” said Leader Currie Dixon. “She brings a First Nations perspective to our campaign and her experience with several community groups. I know Doris will make an excellent MLA for the residents of Porter Creek North.”
Geraldine Van Bibber, the current MLA for Porter Creek North, announced in late January that she will not seek re-election but will serve as the 2025 campaign chair.

As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing will be announced electronically through local media and to party members. Once a nomination opens, it will not close before 14 days of the notice.

Yukon Party nominations for Copperbelt South and Porter Creek Centre are open until February 20.
