WHITEHORSE – Lifelong Yukoner and longtime municipal and First Nations government administrator Cory Bellmore has announced she will seek the Yukon Party nomination in Mayo-Tatchun in the 2025 territorial election, which must be held on or before November 3.
Bellmore was born in Watson Lake and raised in Carmacks and is a member of the Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation. She is currently the Director of Finance and Administration with the Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation, as well as a two-term Carmacks village councillor. Previously, she has served as Chief Administrative Officer of the Village of Carmacks and Dawson City. In 2017, she was elected the first Northern Board Representative of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators, and in 2022, she became the first Northern Representative and First Nation president of that board.
The married mother of three children is also involved in the business community as a former director of the Carmacks Development Corporation for over 20 years. She is currently a director on the Carmacks Hotel Board, which oversees the Carmacks Hotel complex. Her involvement with several community boards and committees over the years includes chair of the Tantalus School Council and treasurer for the Pelly-Carmacks Training Trust Fund.
“My career has been dedicated to building healthy, strong communities and finding solutions to ensure sustainable growth as our communities grow and change,” said Bellmore. “I would like to see healthy communities with adequate health care and education, along with a strong economy and opportunities for residents to help with the rising cost of living. Our communities know what they need to succeed, and I would like to see more partnerships to share the challenges and successes.”
As per the Yukon Party constitution, the riding nomination process for Mayo-Tatchun is open. The opening was announced electronically to party members on July 17, and nominations will close on July 31.
