Brad Cathers Will Seek Reelection in Lake Laberge

WHITEHORSE – Brad Cathers, Yukon Party MLA for Lake Laberge announced on January 16 that he is seeking the Yukon Party nomination as a candidate for the Lake Laberge riding for the 2025 territorial election.

“My track record of success is due to listening to Yukoners, and working hard on their behalf,” noted Cathers. “What I have heard is that Yukoners value a health care system that meets the needs of their family, a strong diversified economy, the peace and beauty of the wilderness, a good education system, an effective social safety net, and infrastructure that meets the needs of our homes and communities – and I share those values.”

First elected in 2002, Cathers has been re-elected four times, gaining the support of more voters in every election in the last 18 years.

“I have worked hard for my constituents and all Yukoners, and I am proud of my record delivering results,” said Cathers. “I look forward to seeking a renewed mandate from my constituents and working with my colleagues to win public confidence and form a Yukon Party majority government. Yukoners want a government that fixes the damage caused by this out-of-touch territorial government, and disastrous Liberal/NDP policies harming people and communities. If elected, we will work to ensure the future is bright for all Yukoners.”

Brad’s family moved to the Yukon when he was two and to the wilderness at Lake Laberge when he was six. He grew up with a wilderness lifestyle that included hauling water by hand, cutting firewood, hiking, canoeing, boating, and dog mushing.

Before being elected MLA and for several years after, Brad worked in the private sector and was part-owner of a wilderness tourism business. His experience in government includes serving in Cabinet for over 8 years, in roles including Minister of Health and Social Services, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources, Minister of Community Services, Minister of Justice, Minister for Yukon Energy Corporation, and Government House Leader. He is 47 years old and has lived in the Lake Laberge area for over 40 years.

As per the Yukon Party constitution, riding nomination processes and timing, including for Lake Laberge, will be announced electronically through local media and to party members. Once a nomination opens, it will not close before 14 days of the notice. To learn more about the Yukon Party and how to support its efforts for change, please visit yukonparty.ca.
