A strong recovery requires leadership, bold ideas, and action — and we need your help! Add your name if you'll stand with Currie Dixon and the Yukon Party!
The Yukon Party recognizes that for the territory to prosper, all communities must be safe and secure.
Safe and Growing Communities is one of three pillars of the party’s visionary platform to provide Yukoners with Action for a Change.
Recent statistics demonstrate that both the severity and the rate of crime are increasing throughout the Yukon.
“Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon and our team know that we need to work with our valued partners on this very important issue,” said Yukon Party candidate for Mountainview Ray Sydney, who was a member of the RCMP for 16 years and is a three term Kwanlin Dün First Nation councillor. “We need to ensure that our communities, and Yukoners throughout the territory, feel welcome, feel safe and feel secure.”
To help ensure Yukon communities are safe, a Yukon Party government will:
- Work with Yukon First Nations to expand the Community Safety Program and the success experienced by the Kwanlin Dün First Nation in Whitehorse to other communities.
- Ensure the RCMP is adequately resourced to meet the needs of all Yukon communities.
- Work with the RCMP to ensure their staffing complement is maximized.
- Work with Canada to transition from the practice of Ottawa selecting a Chief Firearms Officer to one chosen by the Yukon.
As previously announced, a Yukon Party government will implement Slow Down, Move Over legislation to help increase highway safety of first responders, tow truck operators and road construction crews and review street light coverage in rural communities to ensure it is appropriately meeting the health and safety needs of communities.
