WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Party Official Opposition welcomes the Yukon government’s pause on the implementation of tipping fees at rural Yukon solid waste transfer stations for one month until May 1, 2025.
The move comes after Kluane MLA Wade Istchenko suggested a delay during debate in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, March 27. During question period, Istchenko highlighted while the fees were set to increase on April 1, rural Yukoners were not adequately notified of the fee increase and timing. Istchenko shared that there was poor communication regarding the increase.
“The failure to properly notify rural Yukoners about hiking tipping fees at rural transfer stations is just another example of the disregard for rural Yukon,” said Istchenko. “I’m happy that our work to secure an extension to the tipping fees implementation date has paid off for rural Yukoners.”
